Smile Create Repeat (SCR), a company that provides an art supplies subscription service, has recently sent me a box to check out.
I know that such art supplies subscription services exist but was never tempted to try them. I guess I like to know what I'm buying with my money. However, I must admit that the idea of opening up a box of art supplies without first knowing what's inside can be quite exciting and fun too.
Other companies that I know of that provide such services are Art Snacks and SketchBox.
SCR has different subscription plans available. A one month subscription cost USD $25, a 6-month cost $135 and for one year it's $240 (which works out to be around US $20 each month). Prices are inclusive of shipping within USA. As far as I know, the other companies also provide US shipping only as well.
So these are the supplies I received in this particular box.
- General's Kimberly Drawing Pencil 6H
- Lyra Aqua Brush Duo Marker
- Marabu Graphix Aqua Pen
- Royal Talens Ecoline Brush Pen Marker
- Sakura Koi Coloring Brush Pen
- Strathmore Artist Trading Cards
There are also some postcards and three bonus items meant for first time subscribers, and in this case they are the rigger brush, a generic graphic pencil, Prismacolor pencil and a calligraphy marker.
This is the sketch I drew and coloured with the supplies. There were quite a few brush pens included. I'm glad they mixed up the colours.

Royal Talens Ecoline Brush Pen Marker is the juiciest marker/brush pen of the lot because of its size.

The quality of the supplies are decent. I'm not expecting really high quality products for the price because the company has to include several items in the box. If you put expensive items, that would mean fewer items and the box would feel quite empty.
I personally won't go for such services but how about you? Would you?
